Derrick Lemire Grand Prix

Well, we just returned from Ojai California where my wife took second in the Derrick Lemire Grand Prix! She was awesome, hanging on the whole race by a thread and then mustering the guts to pass everone where I told her to and coming around the last corner third wheel to pass one last girl in the seventy five meters she had to sprint to the finish. She got beat by some girl at least ten years younger and who obviously rides in one day what Julie does for an entire week.

The earlier part of the weekend Julie and I were in Carpinteria for our tenth wedding anniversary. We had fun ralaxing, riding, and eating out. Carpinteria is a great town just south of Santa Barbara and so much nicer as it is like SB minus the crowds and homeless people.

My DLGP did not go quite as well but I was feeling strong and that makes three races in a row now. Amgen pretty much controlled it from the gun and I did my best to mark the right moves but as good as I was up the hill I just kept getting caught with the wrong guys. You know the type they put in a hard move and then don't want to work again untill the last lap of the race when they win riding across the line with their hands in the air. Ah well, I did come in ahead of Mark Noble, this years Copperopolis champ. I also have to say Kim Anderson was in our race and she is one strong lady. I had no idea she was in our race until about the fourth time up the hill when I notice a tall blonde with a killer set of gammes go by me! Wow, she even helped with a chase one time. Of course I got all male ego at the end and when I heard a guy yelling for her to go I was like, crap is she right behind me? I never saw her on that last lap and a half but let me tell you I was almost sure I would see that blonde pony tail flapping in her turbo blast as she flew by me. I for one was relieved that she did not as I would have a hard time living that one down from my wife who nearly won her race then I get smashed by a girl, OUCH!

My SJBC crew was in Madera and did well for a foursome, I would have loved to have done that race but ten year anniversaries are pretty rare this day and age so I let Clark, Chris, Ramon, and Nick have fun without me. Next year we will be killing the 45's!
